Due to space constraints, David Blackwood's full report of the July monthly meeting could not appear in full in the Journal. Here is his full report. This sounds like an interesting venue so why not go along sometime?
Another good turnout at the Glasgow natter night in July saw 18 members, most with their partners, gather on a lovely night for the usual chat and banter. We were joined by two prospective new members. We hope they enjoyed their welcome and choose to join the club and group (one of whom was on a new K1600GT!!).
A short group discussion took place to plan a number of runs, overnights and weekends away before the more usual chit-chat of who’d been to what events and stories of biking holidays to come and trips now passed.
I reckon getting a new bike has gone to Donald Darroch’s head, he’s away planning possibly three runs (either that or he’s making sure he’s busy when the next grandchild is born so that he can avoid the ‘babysitting’ word!!), these are:
A local run that ends with a visit to the new Transport museum in Glasgow, likely to be the 15th or 16th of Oct.
A run out west to Tighnabruaich (try spelling that after a few, erm, ‘sherries’)
He’s also going to resurrect the run he led a couple of years ago to the Borders.
A run for the foodies is planned by Walter, this time he’s stolen an idea to go for an ice cream – all the way to Mull of Galloway. August was suggested but this is likely to move to September due to the 60th Rally.
Watch this space (and the forum) for dates etc
Walter and Joyce also led a scenic run to Edinburgh the day before the meet, well done them and, a fuller report of that is elsewhere in the Journal.
As there is usually a very good turnout at the monthly meetings of the ladies (7 at the last natter night) they are looking to plan a ladies day out (fun, food n a few drinks no doubt!!), probably in Glasgow.
No dates or details yet but will be announced on the forum and in the Journal beforehand. The day out is also open to partners of members too who perhaps don’t venture out on the bikes, you’re welcome to come along and meet those that do.
Between November and February a couple of other social nights-out are in the offing – a Comedy night perhaps at Jongeleurs and a ten-pin bowling night, both Glasgow area.
The annual new year dinner (I know, I know its a bit early for that – but it has to be organised). This is seen by many as a tonic after the Christmas overload and sets us up for the year ahead with thoughts of places to go, people to meet and friends to make.
The social events again are open to partners of members too.
Dates and details of these in future Journals and on the forum.
Finally, a number of us went to the Longest Day Rally and had a very good weekend – while most of Scotland was basking in rain storms we, on the other hand were basking in good company and sunshine, some of us even managed (just) a hill-walk!! Many thanks to the organisers for a good welcome and a good time. Try it next year.
